Temagami (pronounced “te-mawg-a-mee”) is a small municipality located 21 kilometres north of Ridgewood Cottages. The name comes from the Ojibway “Te-mee-ay-gaming” which translates as “deep water by the shore”. According to the 2011 census, Temagami has a population of 820 but only 386 private dwellings are occupied by usual residents. This population swells in the summer with the return of temporary and foreign residents and with tourists, all who come from far and wide to explore the network of waterways, islands, and trail systems around Temagami.
The town has a welcome centre, fish hatchery, grocery and liquor stores, restaurants, a bank and ATM, as well as specialty shops. Visit the Temagami Chamber of Commerce website for an updated list of businesses and more information about the area.
We look forward to hosting your Temagami vacation.
